West Bengal elections: BJP releases list of 157 candidates, fields Mukul Roy from Krishnanagar north | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released a list of 157 candidates for the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth phases of the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal.
BJP fielded the national vice-president Mukul Roy as the candidate from the Krishnanagar Uttar assembly constituency. Roy, a former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader was once a close aide of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
The BJP list for West Bengal polls has 157 candidates out of which 9 are for fourth phase, 42 for fifth phase, 38 for sixth, 34 each for seventh and eighth phases.
The list includes nine star campaigners including Bengali actress Parno Mitra who will be contesting from the Baranagar constituency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders on Wednesday met at the party headquarters to deliberate on the probable names and short-list the candidates.
Polling for the 294-member West Bengal assembly will be held in eight phases starting from March 27.
The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
