MUMBAI: Opposition leader in the state assembly Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday that the police have traced the Innova that tailed the SUV laden with explosives, which was found abandoned near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence. After parking the Scorpio, the driver got down and left in the Innova. The last location of the Innova was in Thane. “The vehicle is expected to provide some clues in cracking the case,” a source said.
A senior police officer said, “We would not like to comment anything on the development as the investigation is underway and revealing anything would hamper our investigation.”
Meanwhile, assistant inspector Sachin Waze, who has come under the scanner in the murder of Scorpio owner Mansukh Hiran, was pursued for comment by the media on Wednesday. He declined to comment, but sources said that Waze has denied to the Anti-Terrorism Squad about having been using Hiran’s vehicle since November last. Hiran’s wife Vimla in her statement to the ATS had alleged that Waze has been using the Scorpio.
Sources said that Waze has not commented on Vimla’s statement that he killed her husband. Sources said that Waze told ATS that there were several police officers who knew Hiran. The Thane ATS team recorded the statement of Hiren’s wife Vimla and their son Meet on Wednesday.

Fadnavis had said in the assembly on Tuesday that Hiran’s wife Vimla had said in her statement to the police that after the Scorpio was found outside the Ambani residence, Waze had accompanied him for police interrogations. “She says it was Waze who drafted a letter saying Hiran was being harassed by police,” Fadnavis had alleged. He also said that Waze was demanding that Hiran get arrested.
