Time To Dance Movie Review: An average dance film with Isabelle and Sooraj’s honest performances
REVIEW: ‘Time To Dance’ is all about a dance competition in London which every dancer dreams about winning. The two, all-time favourite performers William with his professional dancer Isha are soon to participate in the challenge. But Isha injures her leg which leads William saying goodbye to her. Here, enters Rishabh (Sooraj Pancholi) who is a part-time street dancer and works as a waiter in a restaurant with his friend Sada (Rajpal Yadav). What next? Rishabh is the saviour, who learns dancing and becomes Isha’s partner. The duo teams up together will make them win this competition.
Stanley Menino D’Costa’s directorial debut follows the footsteps of many other dance films (ABCD, Street Dancer, etc). But what makes it different is that it features diverse dance forms—ballroom and Latin dances—in the heart of the story. Choreography by Stanley and Remo D-Souza, especially the final performance is mesmerising. Written by Deepak Dwivedi, this film has a typical storyline where the man arrives to save the girl and does everything to win her heart and the rest becomes history. The screenplay is very much predictable from the beginning. Despite being a film that is truly based on dance its music disappoints to the core, except the mashup of two romantic melodies ‘Mein Agar Kahoon’ and ‘Bol Do Na Zara’.
Debutante Isabelle Kaif is impressive and her onscreen presence will definitely remind you of her sister (Katrina Kaif). Her dance postures are just perfect, however, she still has to work on her comfort zone in front of the camera. Sooraj Pancholi tries his best to put in a sincere performance. His chemistry with Isabelle is charming and together they looked quite compatible, especially in their stage performances. Besides the central characters, Rajpal Yadav as Rishabh’s friend and co-worker, Sada and Waluscha De Sousa as Isha’s elder sister, Meher helps in pushing the narrative forward.
For its 113 minutes’ runtime, ‘ Time To Dance’ offers a bucketful of superb dance performances to keep you engaged throughout.
