Sunil Gavaskar celebrated the 50th anniversary of his India debut on Saturday by making another debut — joining Instagram on Saturday. Rohan Gavaskar, former India cricketer and son of the Indian batting legend, took to Twitter to announce the news of the former India captain joining Instagram. Gavaskar, in his first social media post, shared a picture of himself from his playing days and wrote “Hello Instagram. I think I’m ready for another debut… #SMG10K”

Sunil Gavaskar was the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket.

He amassed over 10,000 runs from 125 Test matches and scored 34 centuries. Gavaskar averaged over 50 in the longest format of the game.

Gavaskar was also part of the 1983 India squad that went on to win the country’s maiden World Cup in England.

India defeated the West Indies in the summit clash at the Lord’s cricket ground to lift their maiden World Cup title.

The Indian batting legend represented India in more than 100 One-Day Internationals and despite not being too famous for his strike-rate, he scored his only century in the limited-overs format off just 85 deliveries.

Promoted

Gavaskar slammed three maximums and 10 boundaries en route to his hundred.

In ODIs, he scored 3,092 runs at average of 35.13.
