Soon you will be able to run background check on Tinder – Times of India

NEW DELHI: If you are on Tinder or planning to join the online dating app, then here’s some good news for you. Soon, Tinder users will be able to run background checks on their potential dates.
According to a report by The Verge, Match Group, the company that owns Tinder and other dating apps has announced its investment in Garbo, a non-profit which enables users to run background checks using only the first name and phone number or the full name.
Match Group has not disclosed the investment amount, but the report suggests that the company is planning to implement this technology in its most-popular dating app, Tinder.
This means that soon Tinder users will be able to run background checks on their dates and will also be able to know the details about them which will include the history of violence or any arrest records. With this new functionality in place, Match Group aims to make dating more secure and legit.
As per Garbo, it collects public records reports of violence or abuse, which include arrests, convictions, restraining orders, harassment, and other violent crimes. The company website also mentions that they accept manually submitted “police reports, orders of protection, restraining orders and other legal documents that report abuse, harassment, or other crimes.”
The report also adds that these background checks on Tinder will not be free. However, the company has not yet revealed that weather users will have to purchase the standalone feature or it will be part of the paid subscription. The report further added that the company has already started testing the feature and will be available for the Tinder users in coming months.
It is also expected that after the successful inclusion of the feature in Tinder, the company might introduce the same in its other dating apps like OkCupid, Hinge and Match.
