MUMBAI: Unhappy with his abrupt transfer from commissioner of Mumbai Police to Home guards following the arrest of assistant inspector Sachin Waze for planting gelatins laden car outside Ambani house, Parambir Singh dashes out letter making serious allegation of corruption against the home minister Anil Deshmukh.
In an explosive letter Singh addressed to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said that Deshmukh had called up Waze to his residence at Dyaneshwar on several occasion bypassing him and demanded that he collect Rs 100 crores haft every month for him. Singh said that Deshmukh asked Waze who was heading the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) and another ACP Sanjay Patil that there were 1750 bars, restaurants, hookha parlours and establishment operating in Mumbai.
The letter also states that Deshmukh pressurized him to register an FIR in the abetment to suicide case of Mohan Delkar,a member of parliament, Dadar and Nagar Haveli who was found dead in a hotel Sea Green on February 22, this year.
Singh’s letter has created a stir in the police circle and Opposition BJP has demanded the removal of the home minister Deshmukh.
Parambir singh was transferred on Tuesday two days after Waze was arrested by the National Investigating Team (NIA) for planting gelatines outside Ambani’s Antilla Tower at Carmichael Road in South Mumbai. The Anti-Terrorism Squad is probing the murder case of Scorpio Car owner Mansukh Hiran wherein his wife Vimla Hiran has stated that she suspects Waze killed her husband.
Singh’s letter further goes on to state that “if Rs 2 or 3 lakhs is collected from each hotel, a monthly collection of Rs 40 to 50 crores was achievable. The rest of collection could be made from other sources.”
In the letter Singh has also reproduced text messages with ACP Patil and him discussing the Deshmukh’s demand.. “The Hon’ble Home Minister has been calling my officers at his official residence bypassing me and other superior officers of the Police Department to whom those respective Police Officers report to. The Hon’ble Home Minster has been instructing them to carry out official assignments and collection schemes including financial transactions as per his instructions based on his expectations and targets to collect money. These corrupt malpractices have been brought to my notice by my officers. The call records and phone data of Shri Sachin Vaze be examined to ascertain the truth of the allegations qua me and for the truth to emerge insofar as his association with political functionaries is concerned Singh said.
The letter states that Deshmukh desired a case of abetment of suicide to be registered at Mumbai.
“My professional view after seeking appropriate legal advice was that while the suicide had occurred in Mumbai, all the alleged acts of abetment had taken place in Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Thus, the abetment of suicide, if any, was required to be investigated by the Police at Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Despite being fully aware of the opinion of the legal experts, the general opinion and the reasons behind it, the Hon’ble Home Minister announced the setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT),” he said.
“These acts of political interference is illegal & unconstitutional and Courts in our country including the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India have in the past come down heavily on such acts of interference in police investigations. I take full responsibility of my police force. However, the instances of interference make it clear that the responsibility of wrongdoings may lie somewhere else – at the door of the wrongdoers. On a collective appraisal of events that have transpired and what is being pointed out by me makes it clear that I have been made a scapegoat to divert attention from the actual wrongdoers,” he added in letter.
