NEW DELHI: India’s tally of medals at the ISSF World Cup here continued to swell on Sunday as the air pistol shooters added two gold medals in team events to take the total medal count to eight – 3 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze.
In the men’s 10m air pistol event, the trio of Saurabh Chaudhary, Abhishek Verma and Shahzar Rizvi defeated the team from Vietnam 17-11 in a one-sided gold-medal match. Chaudhary and Verma had won the individual silver and bronze, respectively, in the event on Saturday.
The women’s team of Yashaswini Deswal, Manu Bhaker and Shri Nivetha Paramanantham defeated their Polish rivals 16-8 in another one-sided contest for gold.
There were only two team entries each in the air pistol event.
On Saturday, Yashaswini had opened India’s gold-medal account in the tournament by claiming the women’s 10m air pistol title. Manu finished second to bag silver.
The third day of competition began with the men’s 10m air rifle team final. But India’s trio of Deepak Kumar, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Pankaj Kumar finished second for a silver, losing their closely-contested gold-medal match 14-16 to USA’s Lucas Kozeniesky, William Shaner and Timothy Sherry.
The bronze medal went to the team from Korea that defeated their Iranian opponents 17-15.
