Road to fight warming is through climate justice: Modi | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In the backdrop of the Uttarakhand disaster, PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday said enhancing disaster management capabilities was one of the areas which needed attention and it could be done through human resources development and technology. He said, “The road to fighting climate change is through climate justice…”
“The sad reality is — changes in the environment and natural disasters impact the poor the most,” the PM said while virtually inaugurating the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS), an annual event organised by the New Delhi-based The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
Underlining the need for economic development in countries that lagged behind in this journey, he added, “Climate justice is inspired by a vision of trusteeship — where growth comes with greater compassion to the poorest…” Though the PM did not get into the details, he said the country was working in the direction of enhancing its disaster management capabilities as part of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure — an inter-governmental body, conceived by India, to make countries resilient in the face the disastrous consequences of climate change.
The Prime Minister said, “At the route of climate justice is the principle of being large-hearted.”
