Interestingly, this is not the only time that the actress has voiced her opinion on the fashion trend. Earlier she had tweeted “Appreciation tweet for ancient women who not only represented their individuality but their entire civilisation, cultures and nations. Today if such achievers are to be clicked, they will all wear torn American jeans and rags like blouses, representing nothing but American marketing.”
Meanwhile, the whole discussion began when CM Rawat made a statement during a workshop organised by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun. He said, “Showing bare knees by wearing ripped jeans just to look like rich kids is the value given now which is just a race towards westernisation when the Western world today is following us. Ripped jeans pave the way for societal breakdown and are a bad example parent set for children.”
However, his thoughts about the fashion trend didn’t go down well as netizens soon began to trend #RippedJeansTwitter. Actress Gul Panag joined the trend as she shared a selfie where she is seen donning a pair of ripped jeans.
Besides, Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter, Navya Naveli Nanda was among the first few people from Bollywood to lash out at the Uttrakhand CM and wrote, “Change your mentality before changing our clothes 🙂 because the only thing shocking here is the message comments like this send to society. Just” alongside a picture sporting ripped jeans with much proud.
