He started out by working as an executive producer for the 1991 superhit ‘Henna’, directed by his brother Randhir Kapoor, and then made his directorial debut with the 1996 movie ‘Prem Granth’ starring his brother Rishi Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. His last work as a producer was in 1999, for the film ‘Aa Ab Laut Chale’ helmed by his brother Rishi. He also helped edit the film. But after that, Rajiv hadn’t been a part of films.

Talking about his personal life, the actor-filmmaker had married architect Aarti Sabharwal in 2001, after dating her for two years. However, the duo divorced in 2003. Reportedly, he had started working at a law firm in Canada and was all set to make a Bollywood comeback after almost three decades with Ashutosh Gowariker and Bhushan Kumar‘s joint production, a sports drama titled ‘Toolsidas Junior’, co-starring Sanjay Dutt.

Rajiv passed away on Tuesday, February 9, at the age of 58. The actor-filmmaker suffered a massive cardiac arrest following which Randhir Kapoor rushed him to a hospital in Chembur but the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
