KANYAKUMARI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said it was his duty as an Indian to protect Tamil culture and language just like other languages, religions, cultures and ideas.
Campaigning in Kanyakumari, Rahul said, “We should not allow (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi and RSS to insult Tamil culture and tradition.”
“History shows that nobody can run Tamil Nadu other than Tamil people This election will show the same thing. Only a person who truly represents people of Tamil Nadu will become the chief minister,” he added.
Rahul paid homage to late Kanyakumari MP H Vasanthakumar at Agastheeswaram. He was in all praise for Vasanthakumar for the late leader’s initiatives for the welfare of the downtrodden people in his constituency. “No matter what pressure he came under, how much he was threatened, he stood for the values and was with the Congress,” Rahul said.
