NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Bokakhat, Assam ahead of assembly elections scheduled later this month. This is PM Modi’s second visit to Assam over the weekend. On Saturday PM Modi had addressed a rally in Chabua.
Later today, the Prime Minister will also visit Bankura, West Bengal.

On Sunday, PM Modi at an election rally in Bokakhat said that Assam has made up its mind, “dusri baar Modi sarkar”.

Training guns at Congress, PM Modi said that the party is only after power now as its treasuries are running empty. PM Modi also accused former Congress governments in Assam of curbing the state’s growth in the petroleum sector.
Addressing a rally in Chabua on Saturday, the PM had also accused the Congress of supporting those trying to tarnish the image of Assam tea.
Polling for the 126-member Assam assembly will be held on March 27, April 1 and April 6. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
Highlights from PM Modi’s speech at Bokakhat:
* Today I can respectfully say to all our mothers, sisters and daughters sitting here that we have worked hard to fulfil the responsibility and expectations with which you elected the BJP government.
* During Congress’ reign, the main question was to save the loot of Assam from Congress. Under the NDA, Assam is heading to touch new highs.

* In Congress Raj, the question was how to increase the connectivity between the two sides of the Brahmaputra? Modern bridges are being built on the Brahmaputra during the service of NDA, old incomplete bridges are being completed.
* The NDA govt has put the rhino hunters in jails. We are working on both safety of animals as well as facilities for the people of Assam.
* In the last five years, Assam has witnessed a growth in forest cover. It increases the opportunities for tourism and economic activities.
* Now that the NDA government is at the centre and the NDA government is also in the state, the power of a double engine is pushing Assam forward.

* Another major resource in Assam is petroleum and its related industries. Congress ignored the potential of this resource. In six years, more than 40 thousand crore rupees have been invested in Assam in the oil and gas sector.
* The Assam government is also serious about increasing the daily wages of labourers working in tea gardens.
* In the last five years, the BJP-NDA government has taken steps for tea garden workers in education, livelihood and medicine.
* Congress says it is secular but befriends parties based on sects in Assam, West Bengal and Kerala. They do not see anything in front of power.

* Congress leaders today are only after power. Their treasuries are running empty and so they are only trying to fill it.
* Congress abuses the Left in Kerala but embraces the Left in West Bengal, hoping for a chair. Congress is in alliance with them in Jharkhand, Bihar, Maharashtra but those parties will campaign against Congress in West Bengal.
