‘Not conceded any territory to China,’ defence ministry says | India News – Times of India
“Assertion that Indian territory is up to Finger 4 in Pangong Tso area is categorically false,” the statement further said.
The clarification comes close on the heels of a statement by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi this morning, where he said that India has ceded territory to China as a part of disengagement agreement in Ladakh.
The Army statement clearly contradicted a claim made by Gandhi. He had said, “Finger 4 is our territory, that is where our post used to be. Now we have moved from Finger 4 to Finger 3. Why has Prime Minister Modi given up Indian territory to the Chinese. This is the question that needs to be answered by him and the defence minister,” Gandhi said.
The Army, in an effort to ‘set the record straight,’ clarified that the LAC, as per Indian perception is at Finger 8 and not at Finger 4. Elaborating further, the statement said that India’s permanent post on the north bank of Pangong Tso is near Finger 3 while China’s is at east of Finger 8.
“The current agreement provides for cessation of forward deployment by both sides and continued deployment at these permanent posts,” it said.
