NEW DELHI: On the day veteran P C Chacko resigned from the party claiming there was no leadership but only two factions in Congress in Kerala, deputy leader and member of G-23 Anand Sharma said the party was united and what was being dubbed as factionalism was actually internal democracy and discussion.
Sharma said, “Congress, historically, has stood for internal discussion, issues are debated in the long history of Indian National Congress. There are no two groups in Congress. It is one INC. Right now the only objective before Congress is to fight these elections together to defeat BJP. But, let there be no wrong impression that Congress will not fight these battles together.”
The comments about opposing BJP are in sync with the position the dissenting G-23 has taken even as it has argued that the party leadership has not been up to the mark. The grouping evidently would not like to convey the impression that it is weakening the party during elections. The remark came as senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and other dissidents have said they will campaign in the coming elections.
