Neena Gupta, Shreyas Talpade and Anupam Kher: B-town stars celebrate World Theatre Day – Times of India


In Bollywood, there are several stars who have been stage artists. They often talk about their transition from theatre to big screen. Today is World Theatre Day and Bollywood celebrities have taken to social media handles to express their gratitude towards theatre.

They have been sharing throwback pictures of their stage performances on social media. Neena Gupta shared a BTS picture featuing Anupam Kher to mark the special day. While Anupam shared a series of throwback pictures along with a heartfelt note. He wrote, ”On the #WorldTheatreDay here is glimpse of my journey as a #TheatreActor in the last 50years. On this wonderful day I want to thank all my teachers, directors, co actors and the wonderful audiences for their love, teachings and support! Jai Ho! 🎭 #Theatre #रंगमंच #Applause”.

Adil Hussain tweeted, ”Theatre is my First Love. And it will always be the one. It has evolved into a fine medium of expression over millenia! Happy International Theatre day to everyone! I hope that the Governments of each state makes theatre studies a compulsory subject from Primary Schools onward.” He urged the governments of each states to make theatre studies compulsory in schools.

Namit Das said, “Big love to everyone celebrating World Theatre Day. It is a very special day for many theatre artists including me. My career as an actor began in college, which encouraged theatre and arts and that boded very well for me because my background in music drew me to it.”

He adds, “I made friends for life and met the love of my life through theatre. I remember commuting from my college in South Bombay to Prithvi Theatre in Juhu. I was mesmerised by the world of theatre and artists giving their all while performing. For quite some time, I had been in the audience just watching performances for the sheer joy it brought me and soon enough the roles reversed and I became a performer. So I always say I am an actor by pure accident and I owe the highs of my journey to theatre.”
