Need to have a future-ready military: Bipin Rawat | India News – Times of India


HYDERABAD: Chief of defence staff General Bipin Rawat on Thursday said India was a facing a complex and challenging security environment that makes it “necessary” to enhance military capabilities and address the voids.
“We need to have a future-ready military,” the army chief said.
Gen Bipin Rawat was speaking at a national webinar organised by the College of Defence Management (CDM) Secunderabad, a premier tri-service institution of the Armed Forces.
In the webinar, Gen Bipin Rawat said the transformation for Indian armed forces had become necessary to stay relevant in the ‘fast changing geopolitical environment’.
The army chief stressed on the significance of evolving doctrine, force structures, technology and sustenance to create future-ready military.
During the webinar, speakers focussed on the desired changes being sought in the Armed Forces, through promotion of jointness in training, staffing and procurement. The importance of restructuring of military commands into Joint Theatre Commands was also highlighted to achieve desired level of jointness in operations. Various models of transformation were discussed to derive key concepts as applicable in the Indian context.
There were also deliberations on a suggested model for Oceanic Theatre Command (OTC).
