Mozambique to receive first batch of Varanasi made locomotive next week | India News – Times of India


LUCKNOW: As part of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ mission, Indian railway ministry will export the first batch of 3000 horsepower diesel locomotive engines to Mozambique next week . The engine has been developed by Banaras locomotive works.
The first cape gauge (1067 mm) locomotive built with AC-AC traction system have haulage capacity of 2255 tons at 100 kmph.
A total of six locomotives will be given to African nation out of which two will handed over via virtual inauguration ceremony on March 10 by railway minister Piyush Goyal and his Mozambique counterpart.
According to senior railway officials, the locomotive was built in partnership with private player, where Banaras locomotive works gave support and guidance to suppliers for sub-assemblies like Turbo-supercharger assembly, Traction motor and alternator propulsion system, Fuel tank, compressor and other parts.
