Metallica: Blizzcon 2021: When Twitch tolled the censor bell for Metallica concert – Times of India

Blizzcon, the annual gaming convention of American video game developer Blizzard Entertainment is being held virtually this year due to, well, you know, that dastardly virus (if you can call it that) making lives miserable on the planet. The virtual event was kicked off by none other than Thrash Metal icons Metallica. The concert was being live streamed on Twitch until the feed ran into a bit of a problem as the audio was replaced by a very different music, which some may even find funny. The Metallica music in the livestream was censored by Twitch so that the DMCA copyright issues don’t come to haunt the game streaming service. Esports consultant Rod Breslau shared his thoughts about the audio of the livestream being replaced with 8-bit audio.

It is quite ironic that the live performance of one of the giants of the Metal music scene suffered due to the possible copyright infringement issue that may have hit the Amazon-owned game streaming platform later, considering Metallica took legal action against Napster way back in the late 90’s for sharing their music online.
Meanwhile, a number of announcements were made during Blizzcon 2021. Blizzard announced the Arcade Collection that includes The Lost Vikings, Blackthorne and Rock N Roll Racing.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination and World of Warcraft- The Burning Crusade: Classic expansion were announced. The video game maker also revealed Hearthstone Forged in Barrens expansion and Mercenaries Mode and announced Diablo 2 Resurrected.
