MacOS: Otoy’s OctaneRender and OctaneX available on macOS for free; DaVinci Resolve 17.1 arrives for M1 MacBooks – Times of India

Otoy’s graphics renderer OctaneRender is now available natively for the first time on macOS – aimed at creative professionals in Film, VFX, Gaming, Motion Graphics, Design and Archviz. It is not optimised for M1, but works via Rosetta, says the company.
OctaneRender, used by 3D, motion graphics and crypto artists, is now releasing for free in the Mac App Store. The company claims it brings GPU-accelerated path tracing natively to macOS for the first time. Otoy says it has collaborated with Apple on a multi-year engineering effort to rebuild OctaneRender from the ground up with full optimisation for the Apple Metal Graphics API.
Otoy has also released Octane X for free on the Mac App Store, bringing all Octane X Enterprise standalone features to every Mac, alongside two new exclusive macOS-only offers of Octane X Prime and Enterprise subscriptions, each free for one year, with access to the full suite of Octane X plug-in integrations across the industry’s leading 3D content creation tools including Cinema4D, SketchUp, Maya, Houdini, Blender, Poser, Modo, Nuke, Unreal Engine, and Unity.
The company claims that with the new Octane X app on the Mac App Store, Mac users can access all the tools needed to package and render their artwork on the RNDR network – the decentralised GPU rendering platform, enabling all Mac artists to publish their NFT CryptoArt on the Ethereum blockchain.
DaVinci Resolve 17.1
DaVinci Resolve 17.1 has also arrived for M1 MacBooks. It adds universal app support for Macs running Apple M1 processors to provide better performance on the new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13” and Mac mini. For DaVinci Resolve Studio, this update adds support for hardware-accelerated encoding and decoding of H.265 10-bit 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 formats on supported Intel platforms, and it is claimed that this improves the performance. DaVinci Resolve 17.1 is available now as a free download from www.blackmagicdesign.com/support.
