left for dead 2: Why Germany censored and then uncensored Left For Dead 2 – Times of India

Widely considered to be one of the best 4-player co-op zombie shooters, Valve’s Left For Dead 2 has come under the limelight recently again. Left For Dead 2 launched in 2009 and in the avalanche of shooting games that have come since, could have been the game that was left for dead, literally, but it didn’t and is still enjoyable with a group of buddies. The first time news of the game came in recent memory was last year when a community-made update was announced, which was surprising as it came after more than a decade. The game developers decided to add a game update called “The Last Stand” to the official game, which was added worldwide in September 2020 with the exception of one country: Germany.
The German authorities did not allow certain parts and elements of the zombie shooter and have allowed the uncut version of the game only now, as per a report by Engadget. The authorities had earlier reportedly scrapped the blood effects and fire-based weapons from the game. The dismembering effects were also removed. Moreover, the missing thumb of the zombie hand in the cover art of the original uncut game was replaced with a full-sized one.
Upon the request of Valve, the German authorities decided to reevaluate the game and have passed it. Now, the original uncut version of the game can be accessed by players in Germany. As per another report, this is not the first time Germany has censored a video game. Similar treatment has been meted out to games like Half-Life and Fallout 3.
