Kannada Actors who made it big in Bollywood | The Times of India
Actor Prakash Raj has been around for more than three decades and has seen tremendous success – including a lot of critical acclaim – in the Telugu and Tamil industries. Born to a Tulu-speaking father and a Kannada-speaking mother, Mr. Raj is a true-blue Bangalorean whose illustrious acting career began through street theatre and then slowly inched towards Kannada television with key roles in shows like Bisilu Kudure and Guddada Bhootha. He would then later pick up supporting roles in films like ‘Nishkarsha’ and ‘Ranadheera’ before making solid impressions through performances in ‘Nagamandala’ and other projects.
His Bollywood career, on the other hand, took off in the early 2000s with films like ‘Khakee’ and ‘Shart’ but despite having achieved a lot of fame and success down south, the career in Hindi cinema seemed intermittent and not very promising at the time. However, things began to look bright when his role of Gani Bhai in the Hindi remake of ‘Pokiri’ gained a lot of traction and the Bollywood industry was compelled to not ignore his talent anymore. And so it happened as Prakash Raj would then go on to land many interesting acting opportunities in big-ticket Hindi releases like Singham, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Heropanti’, ‘Entertainment’, and ‘Dabanng 2’.
