Is director Anil Sharma planning a sequel to the Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer ‘Gadar’? – Times of India

Anil Sharma’s ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in the lead roles is still one of the most loved films we have in Bollywood. Over the years, the movie has received a cult status. Reports are now rife that the director is now planning a sequel to the period love story.

According to a report in a news portal, the makers of ‘Gadar’ have figured out the plot points and are working on a script. While Sunny and Ameesha Patel will be a part of the story, the director’s son Utkarsh, who essayed the role of their son Jeeta in the original, will play a pivotal part. The young actor had forayed into Bollywood in 2018 with ‘Genius’.

The filmmaker confirmed that talks about the sequel are on but he will confirm officially at the right time. According to him, things are at a nascent stage at this point.

Meanwhile, he is busy prepping up for his next project, ‘Apne 2’ with Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Karan Deol in lead roles.

Talking about conceiving the idea of the sequel during the lockdown, Anil told ETimes, “During this lockdown, we have all realised the importance of family, the feeling where we stand up for our loved ones in times of need. This emotional bonding gave me the idea of coming up with ‘Apne 2’. I think this is the perfect time to make a film about family love. This is how ‘Apne 2’ was conceived.”
