iphone 11: This is the top-selling smartphone in the world – Times of India

2020 was tough for everyone, including the smartphone industry where overall sales dropped considerably. Still, a lot number of smartphones were sold and if you are wondering which was the best seller then don’t look beyond Apple. According to a report by research firm Omdia, iPhone 11 was the best-selling smartphone in the world.
Launched in 2019, the iPhone 11 continues to top the sales chart. As per Omdia, Apple shipped 64.8 million units of iPhone 11 in 2020. This is the second year in a row that an iPhone has been the best-selling smartphone in the world, according to Omdia. Last year, it was the iPhone XR which was the best-selling model whereas the iPhone 11 had come in second.
Interestingly, the second and third best-selling smartphones in the world are also iPhones. The iPhone SE and iPhone 12 follow the iPhone 11 in the best-selling list of smartphones, as per Omdia. Apple, in fact, had overall five iPhones in the top 10 list with iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 mini rounding off the list.
Jusy Hong, Senior Research Manager Wireless Devices Components & Devices at Omdia said that “The top 10 list illustrates Apple’s tight grip on the overall smartphone market and the strength of its brand compared to all other smartphone OEMs.”
The only other two brands that had their phones on the list of top 10 selling smartphones were Samsung and Xiaomi. Samsung had four devices — budget and mid-range — whereas Xiaomi had a lone device, the Redmi Note 9 Pro.
The list also illustrates that other OEMs, even a globally well-positioned brand like Samsung, have trouble breaking through to consumers with their own premium devices – no Galaxy S or Note-line model made it into the top 10, noted Hong from Omdia.
