Instagram doesn’t want any trace of TikTok in its Reels – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Facebook-owned Instagram has announced changes in its algorithm in order to stop people from posting TikTok to Reels. The company mentioned that it is making changes to its algorithm and also how it recommends Reels to users. Along with these changes, the photo-sharing app is also issuing new practices on its @creators account to provide tips to Instagram users on how to make content which can be seen and promoted.
The company mentions that now the Reels users will have to post vertical videos and use the music found in Instagram’s library or sounds that they find on Reels. The company reveals that the Instagram Reels that are mostly covered with text, are blurry or have a watermark or logo or a border around it will not be recommended.
The company spokesperson told The Verge, “We’re building on what we’ve learned from Explore to recommend fun and entertaining videos in places like the Reels tab, and personalize the experience. We are getting better at using ranking signals that help us predict whether people will find a reel entertaining and whether we should recommend it.”
The spokesperson further revealed that the company conducted a survey in which the users revealed that they have a ‘less satisfying’ Reels experience when the content is recycled. So, now the company will start deemphasizing that content on the basis of its software recommendation. Also, from now it will be less likely for the users to discover this kind of content if they are not following the person who posted the content.
Recently, Instagram rolled out the Recently Deleted feature. Using this new feature you can restore photos, videos, reels and IGTV videos. Photos, videos, reels, IGTV videos and stories you choose to delete are removed from your account immediately and moved to the Recently Deleted folder. Deleted stories that are not in your archive will stay in the folder for up to 24 hours. Everything else will be automatically deleted 30 days later.
