NEW DELHI: England have struggled to tackle Indian spinners on the spin-friendly pitches and failed the test of Test cricket against the hosts, losing the four-match series 1-3. But it will be a big mistake to write them off in the upcoming limited-overs leg of the series.
England are a totally different beast in the shorter formats and are the No. 1 ranked side in both ODIs and T20Is. In fact their 16-member T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series vs India have only six players who were also there in the Test squad.
The England T20I squad has cricketers who look perfectly moulded to play the shortest format of the game.
Timesofindia.com highlights five such batsmen from the English camp who can have a big impact on the outcome of the T20I series:

Eoin Morgan
The England limited overs skipper is their most experienced T20 player, their highest run-getter and one of the best finishers in the format. Under Eoin Morgan’s captainship, England are on the top of the ICC rankings in limited-overs cricket – both ODIs and T20Is.

Morgan has scored 2278 runs in T20Is so far with an impressive strike rate of 138.98, and that number goes up to 146 when he plays against India.
With two fifties, he has scored 314 runs in 11 innings against India.
What makes Morgan a dangerous batsman is his ability to hit sixes at will. He has smoked more than one hundred T20 sixes, one of only six batsmen to do so, so far in T20Is. With 113 sixes, he is only behind New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (139) and India’s Rohit Sharma (127) on the all time list.
Morgan with his vast experience and cool headed approach to the game, remains a big threat to the hosts.

Dawid Malan
He has not faced India in his short career, but Dawid Malan has burst onto the T20 stage like a storm. The current World No. 1 T20I batsman is a force to reckon with and boasts a 149.47 strike rate to go with a mind-boggling 53.43 average – he is one of a select few to have a 50-plus average in the format.
In just 19 T20Is, Malan has scored 855 runs with the help of a hundred and nine fifties. In fact he has scored only one single digit score in his career so far.

Malan is just 145 runs shy of 1000 T20 runs and if he reaches the mark in the upcoming series, he will be the fastest to reach the landmark. The current record is with Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (26 innings), and Malan will get five opportunities in India to break the record.
There is no doubt that Malan will be one of the biggest threats for the hosts with the bat.

Jason Roy
The England opener will play a big role in setting the momentum for the visitors in the upcoming series.
Jason Roy has scored 890 runs in T20Is so far, with an impressive strike rate of 144.01. And his strike rate increases further while playing against India — 153.38 in seven games.

The big hitter has smashed 42 sixes in the shortest format andthe India new ball bowlers will have a big task on their hands to stop the right-hander.
Roy is not short of match practice. He is coming into the series after a good run in the Big Bash League for the Perth Scorchers in Australia.

Jos Buttler
The wicket-keeper batsman is another one who can start hitting sixes from the word go and forms a formidable opening partnership with Jason Roy for the English side. The experienced opener Jos Buttler boasts a strike rate of 140.46 in 74 T20I matches.
He has scored 1551 runs in quick pace, which includes 10 fifties, hitting 64 sixes.

Buttler also has a good record against India, scoring 201 runs in 12 T20Is with a strike rate of 137.67. And he would look to continue his good run against the hosts.
Buttler is one of the few in the England squad who was part of the Test side, playing in the first Test, which England won comfortably in Chennai.

Ben Stokes
The allrounder hasn’t made the kind of impact in T20Is as he usually does in other formats, but his experience and a decent showing with both bat and ball in the final Test might come handy for him in the upcoming series.
Ben Stokes scored a fifty and bagged a four-for in the final Test on the same ground where the T20Is will be played.

Stokes’s ability to score quick runs lower down the order could be a big factor in England’s overall batting performance in the upcoming series. He has scored 358 runs with a strike rate of 134.08 in 29 T20Is.
He though has a below-par record against the hosts, managing just 60 runs in 4 T20I matches vs India so far, and will be eager to change those statistics.
Stokes’s all-round contribution will give this highly-talented English side further depth in both the batting and bowling departments.
