Google Fit app gets heart and respiratory rate monitoring feature for Pixel phones – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Tech giant Google has started rolling out the ability to measure heart rate and respiratory rate in its Google Fit app. The company has started rolling out the new features for Pixel phone users. The company has also confirmed that it will expand the feature to other Android devices in the future.
The company first announced these features last month and promised that they will be made available on Pixel smartphones first. Now a report by 9to5Google has confirmed that the company has started rolling out the feature.

Google has also posted a video tutorial explaining how the two features will work. Using these two new features, the Pixel phone users will be able to measure their heart rate and respiratory rate. Both the features use the rear and front camera of the smartphone.
In the video tutorial the company explains that in order to measure the heart rate, users first have to tap on the heart rate icon and offer all the required permissions. Now they have to place their finger on the rear camera covering the lens completely. Once done, the app will detect pulse and will show the result in the app.
On the other hand, to measure the respiratory rate, users have to tap on its icon first. After this, they have to give all the essential permissions and prop the smartphone in a leaning position.
This will help the camera in detecting your entire body from the waist and up. Now, users have to start breathing and the camera will check the movement of their chest and show the respiratory rate.
The company claims that both features work in a variety of real-world conditions and for as many people as possible, but still these measurements should not be used for medical diagnosis or to evaluate medical conditions.
