‘Godzilla Vs Kong’ roars at the box office; film’s collections however spell bad news for the Hindi film industry – Times of India
According to reports on BoxofficeIndia.com, the movie made a splash at the ticket windows, minting an impressive Rs 6.4 crore on its opening day followed by an estimated Rs 2.50-3.50 crore nett, thus taking its collections in the range of about Rs 10 crore.
While the numbers are said to be good for the Hollywood release, with business likely to build in south India markets, these numbers are spelling doom for the Hindi film industry which has a bunch of films lining up for their releases in a matter of weeks.
Keeping in mind the current pandemic situation and a growing number of positive cases recorded around the country, these numbers could spell bad news for the Bollywood industry that lay dormant for over a year, delaying their releases in the hopes of walking away with the big bucks.
According to the report, a film like Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif’s ‘Sooryavanshi’ would be expected to do business in around 8-10 crore nett on day one in just the Mumbai circuit. However, going by ‘Godzilla Vs Kong’ trade experts predict that the collections could be far less and range in single digits when it hits screens next month.
As far as the ‘Godzilla Vs Kong’ film is concerned, it boasts an ensemble star cast including – Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza Gonzalez, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demian Bichir.
The plot of the film revolves around Kong and his protectors, as they undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, and with them is Jia, a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond. But they unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe.
The epic clash between the two titans -instigated by unseen forces- is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth.
