NEW DELHI: Team India is gearing up to take on England in a five-match T20I series, beginning March 12 (Friday), in Ahmedabad.
It was an average performance from England in the Test series, which they lost 1-3, but with the change of format which in turn brings in a big change in personnel, a rejuvenated England will look to avenge the humiliating loss, in the shortest format.

England are the current world number one side in the ICC T20 team rankings. They have been ruthless in the past few years in the T20I format, but when it comes to taking on India (currently number 3 in T20I rankings), the battle has been an even one. In the 14 matches that the two teams have played in the past both India and England have won seven games each.
The upcoming series will also be crucial for both the teams keeping in mind the T20 World Cup later this year (in October in India), as both teams try to fine-tune their squads ahead of the eighth edition of the cricketing extravaganza.

OVERALL HEAD-TO-HEAD
A total of 14 matches have been played between the two teams with the first one going back to September 19, 2007 in the inaugural T20 world Cup. A match that will forever be engraved in cricket fans’ memories thanks to the swashbuckling Yuvraj Singh, who took English pacer Stuart Broad to the cleaners — smashing 6 sixes in an over.
However, India and England have not clashed in a T20I now in almost 3 years — The last match played between the two teams in the shortest format was on July 8, 2018, when the men in blue were on their tour of Ireland and England.
Both India and England have won 7 matches each, which means the head to head is split right down the middle in the shortest format.
In India, the two teams have clashed on 6 occasions where India have won three while three matches went in favour of the English.

Highest Team Totals
Among the two batting heavyweights, India currently holds the record for the highest total (218), which the men in blue achieved in their first ever T20I clash against England (2007 World T20). Co-incidentally England also scored their highest ever total against India (200) in the same match but ended up on the losing side.
Lowest Team totals (India vs England)
When it comes to the lowest totals, India have done remarkably better than England when the two teams have been pitted against one another. While India’s lowest score vs the English is 120/9, England in one of their matches against the Men in blue were bundled out for 80. That match of the 2012 T20 World Cup saw Harbhajan Singh claim 4 wickets as a chasing English team (target – 171) lost the match by a heavy margin of 90 runs.

Most runs
When it comes to the batting records, India’s Virat Kohli shines at the top spot with 346 runs in 12 innings against England. Although Kohli only has one fifty to his name in his T20 encounters vs England, runs have been scored off the maestro’s bat at a strike rate of over 130.
England’s limited overs captain and one of the finest limited overs batsmen of his generation, Eoin Morgan is second among the top run scorers in T20I encounters between these two teams. Closely following Kohli with 314 runs. Well known for his hitting prowess, Morgan also has 17 sixes to his name against India — the highest among batsmen in both teams.
Former India skipper MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Alex Hales complete the top five-run getters’ list in India vs England T20I encounters, with 296, 292 and 245 runs respectively.

The century makers
India’s KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are the two batsmen who have scored centuries in India-England T20I clashes.
No English batsman has got to the three-figure mark in T20Is against India.
Most wickets
In the bowling department too, it’s an Indian who is on top. Yuzvendra Chahal leads the charts with most wickets (9) taken. Chahal has been one of the most successful bowlers among the two teams, claiming the 9 scalps in 6 matches with best figures of 6/25 and a decent economy rate of 7.37.
Harbhajan Singh follows Chahal on this list, with a total of 8 wickets in 3 matches.
English pacer Jade Dernbach is the top wicket-taker for England in T20I encounters vs India- 7 wickets in five matches between the years 2011 and 2012, followed by Tim Bresnan and Steven Finn, who took six wickets each.
