Five of family die in J&K accident, toddler survives | India News – Times of India


JAMMU: A toddler cheated death by a whisker even as five of her family died in a road accident in Batote area in J&K’s mountainous Doda district late Monday. She was initially reported missing but was later found alive at the accident spot.
Police said the family from Ganika village in Doda town was on its way from Doda to Batote when their vehicle went out of control and rolled into a 250ft-deep gorge at Ragi Nullah, about 20km from Doda town, around 7.15pm.
On receiving information, cops and locals began a rescue operation and recovered five bodies from the site. The deceased were identified as Rakesh Kumar Bhagat, Chander Rekha, Ajit Singh, his son Ishan, and Bhag Devi.
Ajit’s daughter Arya miraculously escaped the tragedy and was rescued unhurt.
