Exclusive! The three women in Rajiv Kapoor’s life – Times of India

Rajiv Kapoor passed away last month at the age of 58. Randhir and Rishi Kapoor’s brother, who had no medical history, suffered a massive cardiac arrest and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Rajiv, who was based in Pune, had three women in his life. “No casual affairs; he had three proper relationships which lasted quite a long time, the third one ending only because he’s no more today,” a source close to Rajiv informs.

This third woman in his life was a certain Sunita. The source further adds, “He was living-in with her since a long time. Randhir and Rishi’s families were aware of it, but he never brought her to the RK home, and neither did she come along any time. He was very happy with her though”.

So why didn’t they get married? “Well, neither Randhir nor Rishi ever asked Rajiv if he was interested in marrying Sunita. But it was a case of Rajiv loving his freedom no end,” reveals the source.

Before Sunita, Rajiv was married to Aarti Sabharwal. The marriage barely lasted for two years. “Anjali and Rajiv were very happy for about a year. Quarrels began after a year and the two felt that it was better to part ways rather than keep fighting. They separated in 2003,” the source discloses.

The first woman in Rajiv’s life was actress Divya Rana, who made her debut with Rajiv in Rajiv Mehra’s ‘Ek Jaan Hain Hum’ in 1983. When the film released, speculations were rife that the two were in love with each other, but the relationship became serious in 1984-85 during the shoot of ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ where the two starred together with Mandakini making her Bollywood debut. Rajiv and Divya’s co-actor in ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, Raza Murad, when contacted, tells ETimes, “Rajiv and Divya were going very steady.”

ETimes also has it that it was Divya who called off the relationship and went on to marry a certain Fazal and goes by the name Salma now.

Rajiv will soon be seen in Ashutosh Gowariker‘s ‘Toolsidas Junior’, in which he plays the lead role. A few hours after Rajiv breathed his last on February 10, Ashutosh’s wife Sunita had told ETimes: “Rajiv would have watched ‘Toolsidas Junior’ in theatres by now. We are still, of course, aiming for a theatrical release, but we will miss him at every point hereafter. In fact, he was supposed to talk to the media at length in the next few days. We had fixed up his interviews for Sunday, February 14. We had also discussed it with him and he also was looking forward to a nice round of questions. He had completed the film, dubbed for it, and even watched it.”
