Exclusive interview! Tahir Raj Bhasin on his ‘Looop Lapeta’ character: I was surprised to find out how alike Satya and I were – Times of India
Tell us about your role in ‘Looop Lapeta’…
My character in ‘Looop Lapeta’ is called Satya and it is different from anything that I’ve ever done before. I know all actors say that when the look is repeated, but I genuinely feel this way because it’s the quintessential Bollywood hero. I’m the romantic lead opposite the fabulous Taapsee Pannu. I’m having such a great time doing it because when you grow up watching a dose of Bollywood films yourself, there’s always this image of a hero you have in mind when you start acting in films. My character is irreverent, laid back, a charmer. In fact, we describe him as a ‘jhollar’ which means someone whose words don’t match his action. The film revolves around the crisis he creates for Taapsee’s character.
Were you excited or skeptical when approached for the role?
I was not at all skeptical; I’ve always played these anti-heroes…the bad boys.
Do you like playing a bad boy onscreen?
I like playing such characters; I would describe them as three-dimensional. There’s no black and white; there’s always a little shade of grey. I believe that even in real life, heroes are like that and that’s what engages the audience, especially in today’s times. When they approached me for ‘Looop Lapeta’, I was laughing throughout the narration. It’s an adaptation of a German film called ‘Run Lola Run’, which I had really enjoyed in college; so, I was even more excited to be a part of it. And thematically, the film is a heist drama, but it’s also got a lot of romance. It’s very different from my last outing–Derek in ‘Chhichhore’, who was a hardcore, sports guy that you spot on a college campus. It was fun to do something that was a little goofy, with a sense of humour, and also a little romantic. I was also surprised to find out how alike Satya and I were!
