Shirley Setia, who will be making her acting debut in Bollywood with ‘Nikamma’, will join the bandwagon of actors who can also sing. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the budding actress opened up about the inception of her musical journey, her favourite actor-cum-singer in Bollywood and more. Excerpts…

You command a huge fan following already, thanks to your song videos. How did it all start?
It began with me doing covers of songs and then eventually I moved on to working on originals. I feel like my fans have seen me grow and so there is a sense of connection as it is not just my journey, it is also theirs.

Do you have formal music training? If not, have you considered pursuing a career in singing formally?
No, I have not had any formal training in music. However, I would definitely like to take formal training in the same as it will help me with my vocal techniques and control.

Many actors have been showing off their singing talent in films. Who amongst them have you personally liked?
Very honestly, I’ve liked all their songs, but if I had to pick one it would be Ayushmann Khurrana.


What’s next?

I am currently working on a Telugu project, with Naga Shaurya. The film is being directed by Anish Krishna sir. Apart from that I have also been working on a few singles. Hopefully, I will be able to bring out some music soon.
