Exclusive interview! Sanya Malhotra: I’d love to have Tabu over for my birthday but I doubt if she’ll come – Times of India

Sanya Malhotra made a striking debut in Bollywood with the Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Dangal’. Since then, there’s been no looking back for her. She has managed to impress the audience with her flawless performance in films like ‘Badhaai Ho’, ‘Pataakha’ and ‘Ludo’ to name a few. Today, the actress is celebrating her birthday and on the special occasion, ETimes got in touch with her to find out about her plans. Here’s what she had to say:

How do you plan to celebrate your birthday this year?

I am going to Delhi and I’ll be celebrating with my family.

What is your earliest memory of your birthday?

As a kid, I used to be super excited about my birthdays. I remember I used to eagerly wait for my next birthday as well. I used to invite almost everyone–all my friends, their family, their extended families, right from the head boy, head girl–I used to go and personally invite all the random people. And it has been the same. I still celebrate my birthdays with my family whenever I am not shooting; I also call all my friends home. My mother cooks chhole bhature for everyone, a staple birthday food in our household.

Is there any difference between what you wished on your birthday before becoming an actor?

Earlier, I used to wish to become an actor, but now that I have become one, I wish to sustain and flourish in whatever I am doing.

If you had to invite one Hollywood and one Bollywood celebrity to your birthday party, who would you pick and why?

Hypothetically, from Hollywood, I would call Timothee Chalamet and from Bollywood, I’d call Tabu. I am a huge fan of her and would love to have her over on my birthday. But I really doubt if she’ll come (laughs).

If you could wish for a gift, what would it be?

That’s a very tough question, honestly. My friends and family have been asking me the same question for the past 2-3 weeks. But I don’t know. I just want to spend time with my family, that would be the best gift for me. Over the years, my birthday has become a very low-key event. However, I distinctly remember that, as a kid, I kept pestering my parents that I want a gift. I wasn’t very good at my studies, so, my parents had gifted me a large box full of stationery to motivate me to study well (chuckles).
