Exclusive interview! Rumy Jafry: For Randhir ji, Rajiv was more like a son than a brother – Times of India

The film industry has been deeply saddened by the sudden demise of Randhir Kapoor’s younger brother Rajiv Kapoor. The actor-filmmaker suffered a massive heart attack and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. He was 58. ETimes got in touch with filmmaker Rumy Jafry who had worked with Rajiv in Rishi Kapoor‘s directorial debut ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’.

Reacting to the news of his sudden death, Rumy says, “Apart from having a professional relationship, I have been very close to the Kapoor family. I am deeply saddened by Chimpu ji’s (Rajiv’s) death. First Krishna (Raj Kapoor) aunty passed away, then Ritu Nanda, we also lost Rishi Kapoor last year and now it is Rajiv. I am completely devastated!”

When asked if he was in touch with the late actor, Rumy reveals, “We all used to meet quite often earlier. Kapoor khandaan is known for their love for food and we used to bond over it. However, of late, I used to barely meet Chimpu ji as he used to live in Pune. I spoke to him a few times during the lockdown.”

Talking about his experience of working on Rishi’s film, Rumy reminds us that all three brothers were part of the crew. “While Rishi Kapoor edited the film, Randhir and Rajiv produced it. Apart from producing, not many know that Rajiv had also edited the film,” he shares, adding, “I loved working with them in the film. It is not only me, the entire unit still remembers and misses the days we spent together. A portion of the film was shot in America and Krishna Raj Kapoor had tagged along with us for the shoot. The treatment everyone received on the set was simply unforgettable. From the spot boys to the lead actors on the sets–everybody used to get the same food and stayed in the same hotel. They have the biggest heart in the industry. They love and respect everybody!”
