Exclusive interview! Adah Sharma on 4 years of ‘Commando 2’: Vidyut Jammwal is riveting as a co-star, and dexterous as a person – Times of India
‘Commando 2’ completed four years of release this month. How does it feel?
It feels like it does after running a marathon and eating pineapple cake right after.
How did you come on board for the film?
I had auditioned for it. I didn’t get a call back for three months and heard they wanted a “big star” to play the role. During the time, my South film ‘Kshanam’ had released and was a massive hit .It was announced that it was going to be remade as ‘Baaghi 2’ in Hindi. The makers of ‘Commando’ called me back for a meeting at this time and then Bhavana, who was a Haryanvi character was changed to a Telugu cop because no actor in Hindi had done that accent before. It would be different and hopefully interesting. And I got the part! You could also sum it up as divine intervention (laughs).
How was your experience working with Deven Bhojani?
He created Bhavana Reddy who we now have in every ‘Commando’ film. He’s an awesome person and an amazing director with the best sense of humor.
How was Vidyut Jammwal as a co-star and as a person?
Vidyut, as a co-star, is riveting, and as a person, dexterous.
Did you guys have fun on the sets of the film?
It’s nice to work on a set with your friends. Work then doesn’t seem like work. I’ve heard lucky people get to experience that.
Who was the prankster in the team?
Thakur Anoop Singh was the biggest prankster on the sets.
One thing that Vidyut and you bonded over…
Vidyut and I bonded over our love for Carnatic music, English grammar, especially the correct usage of conjunctions.
Any anecdotes that you would like to share with us from your shooting days?
I don’t kiss and tell! But there was no kissing off screen on shooting days as far as I am aware of. Like every normal set, gulabjamuns.
What kind of films do you enjoy doing the most?
Romance is my favourite genre. But I love doing action, horror, and drama too. I even love comedy. Wow, I am clearly greedy!
You are quite active on social media. How do you deal with negativity and trolls?
I deal with trolls on social media like I do with dust particles in the air! However I must add I am one of the few actresses who have huge support from the audience. Even when I try experimental stuff with the roles I do or the clothes I wear, they have supported me immensely.
How do you look back at your journey in the film industry so far?
I don’t look back. I only look forward and I’m making an effort to try and live in the moment.
What’s next?
Next today, there is piano practice after the shoot. There’s ‘Commando 4’ and yes Bhavana Reddy and her accent will be back!
