Daily positivity rate doubles in a month | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Driven by rising number of Covid cases, the daily test positivity rate has steadily increased to 3.7% on March 21, double of 1.84% a month ago, reports Sushmi Dey. Eight states and Union territories, including Maharashtra, Chandigarh, Punjab, Puducherry, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana, have a higher weekly positivity rate than the national average.
Some experts called for opening up vaccination to cover a larger population in the wake of the spreading infection. “We are at the threshold and close to a situation when the cases are set to take off again. There is an urgent need to open up vaccination and people must come forward to receive it. The government must also emphasise that even after vaccination, precaution must be taken because the vaccine can only reduce the severity of the disease,” says Dr Neeraj Jain, chairman, chest medicine, at Ganga Ram Hospital.
