Modding is not new to open-world games. Since open-world games usually have a vast area and a lot of side-quests, there is always the option to add more elements to make them more diverse and relevant for replayability. Many famous open-world games like Skyrim and Fallout have been kept alive and interesting due to the efforts of dedicated developers and communities. CD Projekt Red’s very own The Witcher 3 has also got a lot of mods made by fans and the modding communities. Basically, a mod is a modification to the vanilla versions of the game through which game enthusiasts introduce new elements to the game like adding or making changes in terrain, weather, effects, character builds, new characters, lighting, etc. to make the game world far richer. But using mods from untrustworthy developers can be dangerous as they can become perfect tools to sabotage your system which is why players should always be cautious when installing third-party applications meant to enhance or change the official game.
