Constable, woman found dead in U.P.
Five relatives of the woman held. There is a possibility of honour killing, say police.
The police in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh arrested five relatives of a woman on charges of allegedly murdering her and her lover, Ajay Yadav, a police constable. Two illegal pistols were recovered from them.
The accused included the parents and brother of the woman, the police said.
Superintendent of Police, Ghazipur, D.P Singh, said the two were murdered by the family of the woman as they did not accept their relationship. The two had registered their marriage online in 2018, the officer said.
During the investigation, it was found that the family of the woman had called them home and when they reached there, they took the couple to an isolated place under the pretext of talking, he said. Then, there was shooting, he added. The woman’s family hid her body in their house, he said.
They could not dispose of the body due to police pressure and registered a missing report online as part of a plan to conceal their act, said the officer.
The victims were found dead with bullet injuries on consecutive days.
While the body of Yadav was found on February 22 at Babhnauli village in Rampur gram sabha limits, the body of the woman was found the following day in an outdoor enclosure in her father’s house at Ichwal village, the police said. Yadav, who was posted at the Gauriganj police station in Amethi, was in his village on leave.
