Apple may launch a ‘tough’ Apple Watch model for extreme conditions – Times of India
Apple has so far launched six Apple Watch series models — all of them sport a similar casing that exudes premium smooth surface made from aluminium, titanium and stainless steel.
Now, a report by Bloomberg has claimed that the Cupertino-based tech giant is contemplating launching an Apple Watch with a rugged casing.
With this particular Apple Watch, the company will be aiming at athletes, hikers and more people who may want to put their smartwatch through extreme conditions.
Citing people familiar with the development, the report claimed that this rugged Apple Watch has been internally referred to as “Explorer Edition” and is expected to be launched later in 2021 or 2022 at the earliest.
The report also highlights that this is the second time that discussions about a rugged Apple Watch are coming to light as the company had considered the same after it had just launched the first version of the Apple Watch in 2015.
If such a model happens to get launched, it will only be an additional model on the lines of Apple Watch SE and Nike or Hermes International editions of Apple Watch, suggests the report.
It also adds that Apple is also working on new swim tracking features for the Apple Watch.
Earlier this month, a report by IDC had claimed that more Indians are wearing smartwatches than anytime before and this new adoption rate of smartwatches in India is being driven by Apple.
The company has a 51% market share in the smartwatch category.
