NEW DELHI: A special court on Sunday remanded Mumbai top cop Sachin Waze in NIA‘s custody till March 25 in connection with the case relating to the seizure of explosives-laden SUV found parked near Mukesh Ambani’s residence.
NIA on Saturday night arrested assistant police inspector Waze.
On Friday, the Thane sessions court refused to grant interim protection to Waze in the murder of businessman Mansukh Hiran. Hiran had complained that the SUV involved was stolen from his possession.
The ATS, having taken over the probe from Mumbra police, filed a case of murder after the body of Hiran was found in a Mumbra creek on March 5. His wife Vimla in her statement to ATS alleged she suspected Waze had killed him.
“The informant (Vimla) is directly making allegations against the applicant in her FIR. Hence, this court came to the conclusion that the investigation is at the initial stage by the ATS,” the court had said.
Sachin Waze is no stranger to controversy. His name was linked in an alleged murder in police custody in 2002, following which he was slapped with suspension. The case is pending before a trial court.
