Amazon to start making Fire TV Stick devices in India – Times of India
NEW DELHI: E-commerce giant Amazon India has announced its first-ever ‘Make in India’ initiative and has announced its plans to start making Amazon Devices in India. Amazon has partnered with its contract manufacturer Cloud Network Technology, which is a subsidiary of Foxconn, in Chennai. The e-commerce giant promised to make “hundreds of thousands of Fire TV Stick devices every year” in Chennai. The local production will mainly cater to the demands of users in India.
“We welcome Amazon’s decision to set up a manufacturing line in Chennai, as it will enhance domestic production capacities, and create jobs as well. This will further our mission of creating a Atmanirbhar Bharat which is digitally empowered,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad, minister for communications, electronics & IT and Law & Justice.
“We have pledged to invest US $1 billion to digitize 10 million small and medium businesses, help Indian businesses sell worldwide thereby enabling US $10 billion in cumulative exports, and create an additional 1 million jobs by 2025,” said Amit Agarwal, global SVP and country leader for Amazon India.
Meanwhile, Amazon recently announced that sellers will be able to register on the Amazon.in marketplace and manage their online business in Marathi, a move aimed at enhancing the sellers’ experience on the platform. The development will benefit over 85,000 existing Amazon sellers and lakhs of new sellers from locations including Kolhapur, Nashik, Satara, Aurangabad, Solapur, Nagpur and Jalgaon among many other cities in Maharashtra.
