Gangubai Kathiawadi’ continues to be in the limelight, but for all the wrong reasons. A legal matter is looming large for the film’s team. According to the latest reports, an additional chief metropolitan magistrate court in Mumbai has issued summons to Alia Bhatt and ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ director
Sanjay Leela Bhansali in connection to a defamation case. The suit in question has been filed by Baburao Shah, who is the adopted son of Gangubai. He claims that ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ will portray his family in the wrong manner and that it is factually incorrect. The film is based on a chapter from
Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai and he has also been summoned in this case.
According to reports, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Hussain Zaidi have been asked to present themselves before the court o May 21. Previously, Baburao Shah had filed a petition in a Mumbai civil court, seeking a restraining order against the film and it’s trailers, but it was rejected.
‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ narrates the story of a brothel owner, with Alia Bhatt essaying the titular character. The film also features Ajay Devgn in a pivotal role. ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is scheduled to hit the screens on July 30.
