Ajay Singh retains power, defeats Ashish Shelar 37-27 for president’s post in BFI elections | Boxing News – Times of India


GURUGRAM: Incumbent Ajay Singh on Wednesday emerged victorious in a high-profile Boxing Federation of India‘s (BFI) elections, defeating his nearest rival Ashish Shelar 37-27 in the final counting of votes here. Singh’s entire panel secured the keenly-contested electoral process.
During the BFI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at a Gurugram hotel, Hemant Kalita, who was earlier the treasurer in Singh’s first regime as BFI chief, clinched the secretary general post with a margin of 39-25 votes in his favour.
For the treasurer post, Digvijay Singh emerged victorious 33-30, defeating Anil Mishra in a close fight.
In his victory speech, Singh promised to continue working towards the development of boxing and bring more international championships to India to raise the profile of the game.
