Aftab Shivdasani: I have never regretted doing adult comedies – Times of India

His tryst with acting began as a child artiste and then, he grew up to play the male lead in many Bollywood movies. However, over the past few years, Aftab Shivdasani has become quite selective about his screen outings. Ask him the reason behind it, and he replies, “At this stage in my life and career, I would like to take up projects that empower me as an artiste and entertain the audience, too. I would love to do an action film, play a negative character, be part of a thriller… I want to explore more facets of me as an actor and challenge myself with a variety of roles. I want to be known as a versatile artiste.”

While Aftab has impressed the audience with his portrayal of the romantic hero, he is equally known for his comic timing as well. The actor says that he, too, loves comedies. “Yes, I also hope to do a comedy film soon, especially a situational comedy. There are a few things in the pipeline and I will let you know as soon as they get finalised,” he shares.

Talking about comedies, Aftab has also been part of an adult comedy franchise. Looking back, does he regret being a part of it? Now that he is a father — the actor and his wife have a seven-month-old daughter, Neveah — does he want to be associated only with films meant for family viewing? “Well, I would like to reassess my career, but it has nothing to do with being married or becoming a father. I just want to do good work that I’m excited and passionate about. Also, I have never regretted doing adult comedies, I am very proud of my work and so is my wife. The Grand Masti franchise has become a cult and it was a huge hit. Hollywood, too, has made such films. Many families do watch these films together and find them very entertaining. At the end of the day, these are all roles that I’m playing; it does not define me as a person, and those close to me know the difference,” he signs off.
